UGL Wetlands Pará de Minas | Wastewater Treatment Plant Sludge

One of the most notable applications of wetland technology is the treatment of biological sludge generated in wastewater treatment plants. In this project, the company Wetlands developed the conceptual and detailed engineering for the implementation of a Sludge Management Unit using wetland technology (UGL Wetlands) to treat (dewater, stabilize, mineralize, and sanitize) sludge from UASB reactors and secondary clarifiers (after trickling biological filters).

The system was designed to replace sludge dewatering bags and all the logistics of transporting and disposing of sludge in landfills, generating significant savings in the operation of the wastewater treatment plant (OPEX), in addition to other benefits such as: operational simplicity, guaranteed greater stability of wastewater treatment plant performance through improved sludge management, reduced risk of joint liability in sludge disposal, independence from chemicals and structures for sludge thickening and dewatering, reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, among others. The project included the automation of the rotation valves between the beds, ensuring the possibility of remote operation of the structures, making the operation even simpler.
