Our journey

Constructed Wetlands is an international engineering (sanitary and environmental) company, founded in 2011. We are a multidisciplinary team specializing in processes for pollution control and resource recovery. We work with the complete supply chain, collaborating with companies and partners, providing consulting, design, execution, and operation services for resilient water infrastructure solutions capable of reducing the pressure of human activity on nature.

We are a technology-based company, a leantech , born out of the Sanitary Engineering Department at UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais) and a product of the CTIT UFMG business incubation and acceleration program. Since 2019, we have been based at BHTEC, the Belo Horizonte Technology Park, keeping us connected to the innovation ecosystem.

Throughout our years of experience, we have delivered over 100 projects, implemented more than 26 water, wastewater, and sludge treatment systems, and continue to strengthen our commitment to building a future in complete harmony with the Earth.

Marcos von Sperling
Retired professor from UFMG

It is extremely gratifying to see such an important wastewater treatment process as wetlands approached with such responsibility, discernment, knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm as can be seen with the company Wetlands Construídos. In a country like Brazil, where wetlands represent a crucial alternative, it is fundamental that these treatment systems not only perform optimally but also inspire reliability, so that more and more new systems can be successfully implemented. The Wetlands Construídos team, in its 10 years of existence, has made a significant contribution in this direction. I wish you continued success, hoping that your growth in the coming decades will be accompanied by an increase in the number of wetlands implemented in Brazil, reducing our sanitary and environmental deficit! Congratulations!

Wetlands represent the most natural technology for wastewater treatment. In addition to this evidence, they bring with them an ecological appeal: they blend into the landscape. Only attentive eyes notice the indispensable technical interventions: the distribution of the influent liquid, the collection of the treated effluent. They constitute the present future among us. Due to its knowledge and experience, Constructed Wetlands is the benchmark in this area. Its achievements and results are remarkable.

Professor GESAD / UFSC

For over 30 years I have followed the scientific advancements related to the application of wetland modalities for wastewater treatment. In the Brazilian context, universities have been the main drivers in the development of this ecotechnology, training qualified professionals, many at the doctoral level, culminating in the establishment of competent companies that design, implement and operate these nature-based solutions, most notably the excellent Wetlands Construído.

Constructed wetlands, for sludge treatment, deliver performance that no conventional dewatering technology can sustain for so many years. Decades of operation with: - Extremely low OPEX - Zero polymer - Zero energy - Minimal operational routine - Total landfill independence - Stability that no engineering can artificially "manufacture". Wetland systems do not compete with traditional technologies, but they expose how dependent, expensive, and operationally fragile these technologies are.

The low maintenance and operating costs of wetland technology, along with the possibility of reusing both plant biomass and treated sludge, make this type of proposal viable for most municipalities with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants.
