Itabirito Wetlands Wastewater Treatment Plant 01 | Industrial sanitary effluents
Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for treating sanitary effluents for reuse in irrigation.

The MSF Wetlands Wastewater Treatment Plant project arose from the need to implement two raw sanitary wastewater treatment plants, replacing existing septic tank/filter systems, to serve the administrative areas (toilets, changing rooms, cafeteria and kitchen) and production/operation areas (changing rooms and toilets) of the mine, located in Itabirito/MG. The client's objective in choosing the wetlands system was to guarantee performance stability, with greater resistance to fluctuations in load and flow, and full compliance with legislation, with efficiencies compatible with discharge and reuse standards for irrigation. These demands were further combined with the need for low OPEX and operational simplicity, all qualities characteristic of constructed wetlands technology.
Both treatment plants, the Administrative Wetlands Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETE Wetlands Administrativa) and the Operational Wetlands Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETE Wetlands Operacional), were designed with the same WAH 1.6 arrangement (a horizontal double-stage wetland, with the first stage being aerated), aiming to achieve efficiency compatible with reuse in irrigation. To fully meet this requirement, the Administrative Wetlands Wastewater Treatment Plant features a chlorination disinfection system and a treated effluent storage tank. Another design requirement, unique to wetlands technology, was the complete landscape integration of the treatment structures, creating areas for contemplation, visitation, and rest for employees. The Administrative Wetlands Wastewater Treatment Plant also incorporated environmental education elements related to the iron ore beneficiation cycle, and a viewpoint for contemplating the natural landscape and the mining complex.
